WHERE I STARTED
Born in Lucena. Raised Between Worlds.
My name is Maria Moya Haswell. I was born in Lucena, Quezon Province in the Philippines, and my family immigrated to San Francisco when I was seven years old.
From a very young age, I had many experiences of connecting with the spirit world. But like many children who naturally tap into that source from a young age, I was discouraged by those around me. So I stopped.
Or I tried to.
The truth is, some things can't be stopped — only delayed. After many years, I was called to begin reconnecting with spirit. And for over 30 years now, I've been doing exactly that.
THE WORK
30+ Years of Practice
I have worked with clients as a Tarot Reader, Mystic Shaman, Intuitive Guide, Empowerment Mentor, and Energy Healer for over two decades. My sacred work has taken me across the United States and internationally — to Canada, Peru, Bolivia, and most recently, back to my motherland, the Philippines.
I am founder of Kapwa Wellness in San Ramon, California, where I teach Sound Healing and Meditation, lead a weekly Spiritual Circle, and offer workshops, ceremonies, and retreats. I am also co-founder of SpreadKindness.org, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to encouraging kindness as an everyday practice.
I am a teacher and a mentor — and also, always, a student. I believe we all have infinite opportunities for growth, evolution, and transformation. That belief lives at the center of everything I do.
THE THINGS THAT SHAPED ME
The Lineage: What I Carry
The practice I hold today was shaped by many teachers across many traditions — and I am deeply grateful for every one of them.
I trained with Q'ero elders in the Andes of Peru, learning the sacred cosmology and healing arts of one of the world's most ancient unbroken lineages. I studied with a mystic elder in Bolivia who gifted me ancient meteorite stones from a healing lineage that spans hundreds of generations. I have sat with and learned from indigenous healers rooted in Babaylan tradition — the sacred healer-priestesses of pre-colonial Filipino culture. And I spent a decade as a guardian in the Santo Daime plant medicine lineage, honoring Mama Ayahuasca as one of my most profound teachers.
What I carry today is not any one of these traditions. It is the integrated practice that emerged from all of them — shaped by my own life, my own ancestors, and my own ongoing relationship with the sacred.
I do not claim the babaylan title. I do not speak on behalf of any lineage that is not mine to speak for. What I offer is simply what I have lived, learned, and been trusted to carry forward.
THE PHILIPPINES JOURNEY
February 2020: Going Home
In February 2020, I spent a month traveling through the Philippines for the first time as an adult.
I went to learn. To reconnect with an ancestral heritage I had grown up loving from a distance. To sit with indigenous healers and shamans and mystics who carry knowledge that the modern world has tried very hard to erase.
What I found was something I hadn't fully expected — a sense of recognition. Of coming home not just to a place, but to something inside myself that had been waiting for permission to fully arrive.
This journey was the direct inspiration for the Mystic Goddess Sigils Tarot deck. Every design in that deck — every symbol, every sigil, every card back — carries something from that time. The deck was created with the guidance of my spirit allies and ancestors throughout the entire process.
And the Baybayin script on every card? That is my love letter to a people, a language, and a history that was nearly taken from us — and wasn't.
